George III gold Proof 1/3 Guinea 1813 PR64 Cameo PCGS, Royal mint, KM650, S-3740, WR-140 (R6). By Lewis Pingo. An amazing example of this proof fractional guinea, dramatically mirrored in the obverse and reverse fields with contrasting frost that gives heightened attention to the central devices. Actually, very similar overall to a second example from this Law Collection that sold in our September 2014 Long Beach auction for $8,812.50. Even given the recent sale of another specimen, the present coin remains one of only four distinct examples in this extremely rare format to show up in over a decade of compiled auction archives. Thusly, for the collector of 19th century proofs, and particularly proofs in gold, an offering that should hold special significance.
Estimate: 5000-7000 USD
