Markos Botsaris silver Medal 1823 XF, Erbstein-18158, Dogan-6473. 23.2 mm. 8.01gm. Oblique edge. By Hartmann. Struck upon the death of General Markos Botsaris, hero of the Greek War of Independence who perished in the battle of Karpenisi. Stunning, with classic cabinet patina and wholly interesting design elements, the obverse features a mourning Athena on a pedestal with urn beside and the reverse depicts the Battle of Karpenisi, date in exergue. Very minor hairlines as well as one faint obverse scratch are essentially unremarkable and blend nicely into the surrounding tone. A scarcely encountered historical medal with plenty of appeal.
