Mexico
Iturbide gold 8 Escudos 1823 Mo-JM XF40 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM314, Fr-60. An attractive example of this very scarce and popular gold issue, with a partly softly struck reverse as usual but free of the flaws normally encountered. Struck only for a few months in 1823 before Iturbide's demise in March of that year, this type featured an improved rendition of both the emperor's bust on the obverse and the eagle on the reverse. Nevertheless, the Mexico City mint's equipment was in dire condition at the time, resulting in generally poorly struck coins especially for the large denominations of 8 Reales and 8 Escudos. Certainly elusive and quite desirable in this preservation.
