Panama
Republic Matte Proof Balboa 1931 PR65 NGC, Philadelphia mint, KM13. Mintage: 20. A great rarity of Panama, and the finest of only two certified by NGC and PCGS, with the present coin possessing creamy matte surfaces, a perfect strike and no marks of any kind. Seldom offered, the only other record we have of this piece is from a 2009 Ponterio sale where a NGC PR63 (the second coin in the NGC census) was given a $15,000-$20,000 estimate, but ultimately failed to meet reserve. That estimate, perhaps optimistic at the time given the coin's grade, does however reflect the importance of the issue - as the highest denomination of this early period, and the only proof date of the type, its not a stretch to call this proof striking the most collectible item in the entire modern Panamanian series. A great opportunity for the collector of elite coins of Latin American, and given the extreme rarity of the issue, quite possibly very conservatively estimated in this quality and rarity-focused market.

Estimate: 6000-8000 USD
