Ferdinand VII Type I "Manila" Countermarked 8 Reales 1828 F15 NGC, Manila mint, KM24. Struck over a Peru Cuzco 8 Reales 1827 CUZ-GM. A wholesome coin, quite pleasant for the grade with even wear and all details still sharp. This countermarked issue intended to obliterate the liberty and independence-related legends of the coins issued by the Latin American Republics while authorizing their circulation in the Philippines. The Manila mint equipment was poorly suited to perform it and thus the operation was eventually canceled in 1830. An historical countermarked issue that's becoming quite difficult to locate.
