Philippines
USA Administration Seven-piece Certified Proof Set 1903, KM-PS1 (KM162-168). Mintage of 2,558 sets. All coins certified by NGC as follows: 1/2 Centavo, PR67 Red; Centavo, PR67 Red and Brown; 5 Centavos, PR65; 10 Centavos, PR66; 20 Centavos, PR65; 50 Centavos, PR67; Peso, PR66.Struck in the first year the that Philippines was under United States administration, this spectacular seven-piece set is completely original in every way, with each coin presenting awe-inspiring luster and desirable tone. The ½ Centavo and Centavo denominations are practically similar in appearance, with coppery-bronze color and vibrant, golden mint bloom that dazzles across the surfaces. A few, small oxidation spots on the reverse of the ½ Centavo are all that separates these two captivating selections. The Five Centavos presents satiny, titanium-gray color with subtle, lilac highlights; one, minor obverse planchet flaw is likely what keeps this piece from a finer designation. The remaining four silver denominations are nearly matched in appearance, displaying electric blue and rich lavender patination in varying degrees and patterns, similar to an Impressionist painting. While the 10 Centavos is fully covered in warm coloration, the 20 Centavos displays a slightly striated pattern. The final two coins, the 50 Centavos and the Peso, are phenomenal from all angles. Both emit brilliant, full-bodied luster, nearly flawless strikes, and coloration that is both desirable and absolutely enchanting. Individually, each coin is decidedly remarkable, but comprehensibly this group is absolutely superior. A set that clearly sat undisturbed for the last century and one that is absolutely worthy of a premium bid. From The Virginia Cabinet
