South Africa
Republic gold 1/2 Pond 1897 MS63 PCGS, Pretoria mint, KM9.2. There have been a total of 363 half ponds from 1897 graded by NGC and PCGS combined. This is the single finest example graded by PCGS, with just two finer at NGC and no other 63s, putting this coin in the top 1% of all graded examples. It certainly deserves that recognition. It is an absolutely lovely piece, with stunning cartwheel luster. There is what appears to be an alloy imperfection in the center of the reverse, but that does not detract in the slightest. For the grade-conscious collector of South African coins, it hardly gets any better than this.
