Republic copper Partial Pattern Set 1870, A lot of four patterns, all dated 1870, as follows: KMPn17. 10 Centesimos MS63 Brown NGC. KMPn19. 20 Centesimos MS64 Brown NGC. KMPn21. 50 Centesimos MS64 Brown NGC (plain edge variety). KMPn24. 1 Peso MS63 Brown NGC.All Choice Proof with moderate chocolate toning over highly lustrous surfaces, the 50 Centesimos piece particularly attractive for the assigned grade with definite claims to the Gem designation. Traces of gilt are found on the Peso and the 50 Centesimos coins, which is not surprising since both copper and copper-gilt examples of these patterns have been noted by the cataloger. As detailed in the description of lot 26152 in our 2013 CICF Signature Sale (Heritage Auctions 4/2014), these pieces were struck in accordance with the monetary law of June 23, 1862 (most probably at the Paris mint) and are rarely encountered. This most attractive and attractively matched set should elicit strong bidding activity.
