SICILY. Syracuse. Time of Dionysius I (405-367 BC). AR litra (0.73 gm). Struck ca. 405-395 BC. Head of Arethusa left, hair rolled and held in sphendone, small dolphin to right / Octopus, front two legs entwined. HGC 2, 1381 (R2). SNG ANS 293-294. Rare! Well struck and lightly toned. A piece contemporary with the great Syracuse decadrachms of Kimon and Euainetos. NGC XF 5/5 - 4/5, Fine Style.
