Constantius II (AD 337-361). Æ-BI centenionalis (5.59 gm). Siscia, under Vetranio, AD 350-352. Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantius right. / HOC SIGNO VICTOR ERIS, emperor standing left with labarum and scepter, being crowned by Victory to his right. RIC 282. Struck on a broad, heavy flan, with nearly full silvering. Scarce, particularly in high grade! NGC MS 5/5 - 4/5, silvering. The legend "Hoc Signo Victor Eris" -- "In this sign will you conquer" -- alludes to the famous vision of Constantine the Great prior to the Battle of Milvian Bridge in AD 312. The type was first employed by the "loyalist usurper" Vetranio to show his fidelity to the Constantinian regime.
