Republic Medal Pair 1900, Lot of two medals, as follows:- VC-233. Silvered Bronze, About Uncirculated.- VC-233. Silver, About Uncirculated. These commemorative medals were struck in 1900 for the 4th centenary of the discovery of Brazil by Pedro Alvares Cabral and engraved by Hans Frei of Bazel, Switzerland. They were commissioned by none other than noted Swiss numismatist Julius Meili, who formed what is considered to be the finest cabinet of Brazilian coins ever. This pair is in decidedly above average preservation and very scarce as such.
