William I the Conqueror (1066-87) Penny c.1083-86 MS62 NGC, Winchester mint, Leofwold as moneyer, S-1257, North-848. + PILLELM REX, crowned and diademed bust facing, holding scepter to right / + LIOFPOLD ON PIN, cross pattée; letters PAXS contained within annulets in each quarter. Toned in gray with olive-gold highlights, the full module is on-flan with upset rims and although slight doubling is noted on the reverse, the effect on the eye-appeal is minimal.
