A massive bronze medal featuring the bust of Marquis of Pombal, Prime minister to Joseph I of Portugal and dictator of Brazil from 1751-1777, perhaps most notable for moving the capital from Salvador in Bahia to Rio de Janeiro in 1763. With impeccably detailed design elements that sit on top of luscious, chestnut brown surfaces. Featuring Hercules standing atop slain monsters, presenting the enthroned embodiment of the Kingdom of Portugal the apples of Hesperides, with Fama, the personification of nobility and fame, playing a trumpet overhead.
