MYSIA, Kyzikos. 5th-4th centuries BC. Fourrée Hekte – Sixth Stater (10.5mm, 2.01 g). Sphinx seated left on tunny left / Quadripartite incuse square. Cf. Hurter & Liewald I 27 for prototype issue, but no hektes recorded. Near VF, lightly toned, some scratches. Extremely rare fourrée of an as yet unpublished denomination for this issue.

The issue with a sphinx seated (rather than standing or recumbent), unknown to von Fritze, first appeared as a stater in a 1963 Glendining sale. Since then, three more staters have appeared, as well as a hemihekte (twelfth) and myshemihekte (twenty-fourth). No genuine hektes (sixths) are yet known, but the present fourrée suggests they do exist.
