Republic 8 Reales 1850/40 Ca-RG XF40 PCGS, Chihuahua mint, KM377.2, DP-Ca21. The 1850 5/4 variety indicated as 1850/40 for convenience sake (although technically it did not result from a 1840 die that was reused). A wholesome specimen, quite attractive for the designation with much detail evident and good surface quality. Scarce and eminently collectible in this quality. DP notes that new hubs - probably of European manufacture - were used starting in this year, making for better struck and looking coins compared to the ones minted in previous years such as the present example.
