Great Britain, copper "cartwheel" penny, George III, (1797), worn smooth and turned into a hanging token. Sp-3777; KM-618. 23/25 grams. Very interesting item, numismatically recognizable only by size and composition but with very clear "stippled" (pinpricked) design of date "May 6, 1802" on one side and initials "WN" with hangman's noose on other side, believed to indicate an event that occurred not long before the date of the wreck (the tumultuous time of Napoleon and revolutions in Haiti and France). Recovered from: Unidentified ca.-1802 wreck in the English Channel

Estimate: $50 - 75
