Corporation of the City of London. Coal Exchange Opened 1849. Æ. 90 mm. Crowned portrait of young Victoria in a central medallion; her husband and children are in surrounding medallions / Interior of the Coal Exchange with three dimensional perspective achieved by designing depth into the medal; the City of London shield and motto on a banner are below; around the names of the Lord Mayor, the Chairman of the Committee and the architect. Eimer 1435 (£240VF; £420EF); BHM 2357. Good Extremely Fine; milk chocolate brown patina; minor rim bruises at 11 and 7 reverse. Impressive piece. By W Wyon. This series of thirty large and dramatic medals was issued by the Corporation to celebrate major occasions or the reception of royalty from other countries.
