According to Sieg, the royal monopoly on trade in the Faroe Islands was abolished in January, 1856. This resulted in many new businesses springing up. One was run by a German, C. F. Siemsen, who ran baths in Iceland and the Faroe Islands. He produced these tokens at his own private mint.
