Struck 1066-1068. + PILLEMVS REX, crowned bust left; quatrefoil-tipped scepter before / + DVNNIC ON ÆSTI, cross fleurée, with pellet-in-annulet at center. SCBI 42 (Southeastern), 1720-3 (same dies); BMC 20 (same dies); North 839; SCBC 1250. EF, toned. Rare.


The moneyer Dunning bore close witness to the tumultuous events of 1066 and the Norman invasion of England. He struck coins at Hastings under Edward the Confessor, then the ill-fated Harold II, and finally for William the Conqueror.
