BRITISH COINS, Anglo-Saxon, Canute, Silver Penny, Quatrefoil type (c.1017-1023), Wareham mint, moneyer Ælfgar, crowned and draped bust left within quatrefoil, legend commences at top, +CNVT REX ANGLORVM, rev long voided cross with pellet centre and tri-crescent terminals, over quatrefoil with pellet on each cusp, +ÆLFGR ON PER, 1.53g (SCBI -; BMC -; Hildebrand -; N 781). Small crack at the centre, very fine and extremely rare, the moneyer believed unrecorded for the type.
