NABATAEA. Syllaios and Aretas IV. Circa 9-6 BC. Æ Chalkous (13mm, 2.30 g, 12h). Petra mint. Struck 8/7-6 BC. Laureate head left; Aretas monogram to left / Crossed cornucopias; monogram (Syllaios)?) to left, Aramaic ḥēth to right. Meshorer, Nabataea 78 var. (monograms and letter); Hoover & Barkay –; Huth –; Schmitt-Korte II –. VF, earthen green patina. Extremely rare, and an unpublished type featuring Aretas' monogram on the obverse (monogram #4 in Schmitt-Korte II), and what appears to be Syllaios' monogram (#3) to the left of the cornucopia on the reverse.
