Produced by Loos for the Gontard family of Frankfurt in 1809. The Gontard's, a Huguenot family originally from Grenoble first, came to Frankfurt in 1686, where they soon gained prominence as international bankers. This medal commemorates the 50th wedding anniversary of Alexander and Anna Maria Caecilia Gontard, and was presented by their children who are depicted on the obverse.
