Military mint traveling with Caesar in northern Italy

This coin was struck in the aftermath of his fateful crossing of the Rubicon in defiance of the Senate order to relinquish his military command in Gaul. The payment for the Caesar's troops during these extensive military activities necessitated a large output of coinage, hence these famous denarii. The choice of the obverse has given rise to much speculation, but probably is only the symbol of the triumph of good over evil
