Head of Aphrodite (with features of Cleopatra?) to right, wearing stephane, earring and necklace, her hair bound in a bun at the back / Patrae monogram; all within laurel wreath tied at the bottom. BMC 2-3. McClean 6325-8. SNG Lockett 2348. SNG Cop 154. Good Very Fine; attractive old cabinet toning and iridescence; elegant pleasing style. Ex Poinsignon, June 1990, 03981. Ex BCD with photos and tags. Struck in haste during Mark Antony's preparations for war with Octavian. The head of Aphrodite is widely thought to bear the features of Cleopatra VII.
