Sicily, Himera. Ca. 415-409 B.C. Æ hemilitron (15 mm, 3.23 g, 11 h). IM-E, head of nymph left, hair bound in sphendone; six pellets before / Six pellets within wreath. CNS 35; SNG ANS 186. gVF, nice green patina, sprues remaining. The sprues from the casting process of the flan are very distinct on this coin. It is not unusual at all to find sprues on Sicilian coins struck during this period, but ones so well pronounced, especially as is the case of the one on the left edge, are rather uncommon and makes this coin notable for illustrating one of the many techniques of ancient coin production.
