Stephen (1135-1154), Penny, 1.04g, 'Awbridge' type (BMC 7), Leicester, Gefrei, crowned and bearded bust facing, sceptre to left, stiefn / e rev. gefre[i:on:]leer, voided cross pommée with annulet centre, a fleur in each angle, all within beaded inner circle (Allen BNJ 2006 No 293 - given to York, now known to be Leicester; same dies; N.881; S.1282), an excavated piece, flan crack at 10 o'clock and with some delamination above crown, the regnal title clear and the mint/moneyer readable, nearly very fine, the reverse better for this.
