ELIS, Elis. Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. Æ Diassarion (30mm, 10.82 g, 9h). Laureate and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus right / Laureate head of Jupiter left. Cf. BCD Olympia 323 (likely the same obv. die); BCD Peloponnesos –; BCD Peloponnesos II –; SNG Copenhagen –; BMC –; cf. CNG E-221, lot 191 (likely the same obv. die); NCP p. 71 and pl. P, XXIII. Near VF, rough black-green patina. Though the extremely poor quality of the two types cited above prevent a certain die match, the similarities are very close. Extremely rare, and likely only the second known example.
