John III Ducas (Vatatzes). Emperor of Nicaea, 1222-1254. Æ Tetarteron (21mm, 1.17 g, 9h). Magnesia mint. Cross within pelleted crescent / Half-length bust of John facing within two-towered façade with central arch, holding cross-tipped scepter and akakia. DOC 59 var. (no façade); SB 2131 var. (same). VF, green patina, a couple of flan splits, one of which is filled in.
