FRANCE. 100 Franc, 1869-BB. PCGS MS-61.
Fr-581; KM-802.2; Gad-1136. Mintage of only 14,000 pieces. A bold and crisp coin with impossibly intricate detail in the reverse shield along with a clean portrait. Every bit uncirculated and fully original. The dies (both sides) had been severely wire brushed by the time this coin was struck, and there is clear evidence of raised lines in the fields, especially on the reverse. Last year of the issue in Strasbourg, struck on the eve of the Franco-Prussian War. Upon France's humiliating defeat, Otto Von Bismarck was said to have remarked: "Fools learn from experience. I prefer to learn from the experience of others". PCGS MS-61.
Estimate: $2000.00- $2400.00
