GERMANY. Assault on Taku Forts Silver Medal, 1900.
34.04 mm; 18.55 gms. Marienburg-7172; Li-pg. 101. Map of the Haihe River (China) and its fortifications; Reverse: SMS Iltis sailing right. Struck to commemorate the assault of the Eight Nations Alliance up the Haihe River where they encountered large casualties, but were eventually successful in gaining the Taku Forts. The ship on the reverse was a German vessel which took sixteen shells during the assault, the highest of any foreign ship in the battle. Nice old toning over highly lustrous surfaces. We sold a similar piece graded PCGS AU-55 in March of this year that hammered at $2,700 in our Hong Kong auction. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
Estimate: $1500.00- $2000.00
