INDIA. The Rifle Association of Northern India. Award Medal, 1863.
55 mm (exclusive of hangar); 70.46 gms. cf.Puddester-960 (for type). Silver. Tiger walking left in jungle, date below; Reverse: "RIFLE ASSOCIATION - OF NORTHERN INDIA", wreath and five line inscription within, "WON BY - J. INGLETON - H. M'S 101ST REGT - 23 AUG. - 1863". Presumably a Bengal tiger, as His Majesty's 101st Regiment was previously titled "1st Royal Bengal Fusiliers", with origins dating all the way back to 1652 as part of the Honourable East India Company. A wonderfully preserved example of the medal, with crisp detail and choice surfaces. Unusual on many levels. Never cleaned or dropped and RARE as such. A few light field marks, some light toning. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.
