SWITZERLAND. Neuchatel (Neuenburg). 1/4 Taler (1/4 Ecu), 1694. NGC AU-50.
KM-29; HMZ-2-693a; Divo-1649. From the canton of Neuenburg, from which some of the oldest traces of human habitation have been recorded, dating back 13,000 years. The coin offered is denominated both as a fractional Taler and Ecu, reflecting the mixture of French and German influence on this area of Switzerland at the time it was struck. Exceptionally well preserved for the issue, with a Krause catalog value of $4,000 in EF (highest listed condition) and 4,000 CHF in "vz" according to HMZ. Suffice to say, quite RARE and seldom offered in any condition. The specimen featured is a wonderfully preserved example, with crisp legends and good detail through the portrait. Attractive toning. NGC AU-50.
Estimate: $1500.00- $2000.00
