PLAUTILLA (WIFE OF CARACALLA). AR Denarius (2.94 gms), Laodicea ad Mare Mint, ca. A.D. 202-205.
RIC (Caracalla)-371. "PLAVTILLA AVG" Draped bust of Plautilla with hair coiled into ridges fastened into a bun at the back; Reverse: "CONCORDIAE" Concordia seated facing left, holding patera and double cornucopiae. An appealing example of this scarcely seen Augusta, who was exiled from Rome and later murdered after her father was executed for treason. Faint scratch in obverse field observed under magnification. Good metal quality with attractive toning. EXTREMELY FINE.
Estimate: $125.00- $175.00
