George V Specimen 10 Cents 1928 SP67 PCGS, Ottawa mint, KM23a. An engrossing example of this stunningly rare specimen date, entirely defined and shimmering over both sides, with an exceptional cloak of lilac and sunset-orange tone that traverses both sides. Looking beneath the tone, the surfaces appear essentially pristine, suggesting that if anything, the assigned grade of Specimen 67 was a bit conservative. Like many specimens of the period, swirling die polish lines are seen, and evidently contribute to the aforementioned surface shimmer. As a further testament to its rarity, a check of PCGS and NGC population reports show no other examples of this date in any grade. A coin that is without question worthy of "trophy-coin" status, and for the specialist of Canadian dimes, a coin that could certainly be considered a collection centerpiece. From The Eric Beckman Collection of Canadian Coins
