George VI Specimen 10 Cents 1939 SP66 PCGS, Royal Canadian mint, KM34. We welcome back an old friend in this wonderful coin, as we last sold it over 12 years ago as a part of the landmark Belzberg auction. In the interim, we have sold no other examples of this considerably rarity, and its description in Belzberg was as fitting then, as it is now. It read: Mottled golden-russet patina with deeply mirrored fields. A 1939 specimen set consists of three denominations only. The 25 Cent and 1 Dollar coins were the other two denominations issued in Specimen. The three coins were never actually issued as a set and this might suggest that the influential 10 Cent and 25 Cent collectors may have had a hand in the production of these minor coins in Specimen. This is the nicest Specimen dime that we have seen.Today, tied with one other example for the finest of only 5 certified, it remains just as, if not more appealing than it was then, as a more seasoned rarity in the Canadian 10 cent series. It is truly a coin to be celebrated.Ex. Belzberg Colleciton; Pittman CollectionFrom The Eric Beckman Collection of Canadian Coins
