Victoria Specimen 25 Cents 1870 SP65 PCGS, Royal mint, KM5. Reeded edge. Mirrored surfaces immediately attract the eye, with delicately frosted raised motifs that help create a most-attractive cameo appearance on both sides. The strike, executed to the greatest standards capable of the British Royal Mint, intricately defines all details with no area showing any hint of incompleteness. A marvelous rarity not only in this coveted Gem grade, but also as a specimen in general, with only four examples of this reeded edge variety showing in the PCGS population reports, the present of which is the single finest. This example, missing from both the Norweb and Pittman holdings in reeded edge form, is the only of its kind we have seen offered publicly, with it last appearing in our 2003 offering of the legendary Belzberg Collection.Ex.
