Bavaria. Otto gold Proof 10 Mark 1888-D PR64 NGC, Munich mint, KM910, Jaeger-198. One-year type. A delightful near-Gem of this premier 10 Mark issue of Otto, featuring the leftward-facing portrait on the obverse, paired with the small eagle arms that were used on the previous Ludwig II issues of 1874-1881. Rarely encountered as a proof, this present piece displays wonderful reflectivity in the fields and moderate cameo contrast. Bright flashes of tone are noted on both sides and scattered ticks, none overly obtrusive to the eye, account for the grade.
