Hamburg. Free City gold Proof 5 Mark 1877-J PR65 Ultra Cameo NGC, Hamburg mint, KM605, Jaeger-208. One-year type. A great and well-known rarity among German proof gold specialists, with archived records revealing only a single example (the present coin) passing through auctions in the U.S. and in Europe over a nearly 15-year span. Likewise, this is the only the graded example in either the NGC or PCGS population reports...and what a beauty it is! An exquisitely produced coin, the proof surfaces behold all the qualities that collectors find desirable; the highpoints are crisply defined and thickly frosted, while the fields hold mirror-like reflectivity throughout.
