Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Friedrich Franz IV gold Proof 10 Mark 1901-A PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC, Berlin mint, KM331, Jaeger-233. Mintage: 200. One-year type. A world-class example, and the finest certified, of this important proof issue, preserved as fine as we have seen, with crisp contrast between the ultra-frosted motifs and the shimmering mirrors and a ring of tone around many of the raised surfaces that adds a glowing element to the appearance. While comparable examples sell very infrequently, we do note that a choice example, graded "Prachtexemplar" by the German auction house Künker, did hammer at 5,750 Euros (or approximately $8,000 at the time) back in October of 2007. Given that nearly 8 years have passed since that offering, we can only expect similar or greater enthusiasm for this spectacular jewel when it crosses the auction block. From The Kaiser Collection of German Gold Coins
