Schaumburg-Lippe. Georg gold Proof 20 Mark 1904-A PR67 Cameo NGC, Berlin mint, KM205, Jaeger-285. Mintage: 132. Almost certainly the finest survivor of this two-year issue, and as alluded to in the previous lot's description, the finest graded of its type. Approaching the summit of perfection, this coin in ways challenges our own claim on the 1914 Saxony 20 Mark graded PR68 UCAM in this sale where we said, "we've never seen another proof 20 Mark come close." In fact, this coin does come rather close. The reflectivity in the fields showcases ultimate depth, and the absence of flaws is truly impressive. While failing to receive the Ultra Cameo designation, the contrast is actually very bold, and as strong as we have seen for this design. A couple scattered coppery blushes are mentioned for accuracy's sake, but these are barely picked up by the eye until intensely scrutinized. An undeniably special coin, and when further considered in the context of the lowest mintage German Empire gold proofs of the 20th century, all the more mesmerizing. From The Kaiser Collection of German Gold Coins
