Philip V gold 4 Escudos 1732 Mo-F AU58 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM135, Cal-237. Borderline Mint state showing very slight high-point wear, partially lustrous surfaces with scattered contact marks and good eye-appeal. The very rare first date of the issue, and the first regular milled 4 Escudos struck at the Mexico City mint. Less than ten examples have been confirmed by the cataloguer, with a handful of noted public offering in the past 40 years, as follows:- the Calico plate coin, UNC (ex-Superior 6/1976, lot 2498, for $17,500).- the present coin, AU58 NGC (ex-Ponterio 6/1985, lot 1, for $23,100), the KM plate coin.- a coin sold in 1993, UNC (Ponterio 10/1993, lot 149, for $33,000).- the Eliasberg example, VF, mounted (ANR 4/2005, lot 3084 for $8,050).- a specimen sold publicly in 2011 (Ponterio 8/2011, lot 21279, VF+ estimated at $20,000).The cataloguer also notes two confirmed examples of the excessively rare 4 Escudos 1732-Mo with neither assayer initials nor denomination on the reverse, as follows:- the Calico plate coin. Same coin as No. 1326 in the work "Catalogo de la Coleccion Numismatica Emilio Carles Tolra" (Barcelona, 1936).- the example in the Banco de Mexico collection, F.The single example currently listed in NGC's registry and a superb example of this highly significant rarity, now with the most prestigious pedigree. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins
