Philip V gold 4 Escudos 1746/5 Mo-MF XF Details (Chopmarked) NGC, Mexico City mint, KM135, cf. Cal-252 (unlisted overdate). A rather sharply detailed specimen with the expected handling marks for the designation and significant luster remaining. A very rare date of the type, with no recent offerings traced by the cataloguer (and no examples currently certified by NGC or PCGS), though one example was offered in a partial sale of the legendary Brand collection (Glendining 3/1936, lot 247). Rather than a chopmark, the flower-like small countermark placed to the left of the bust is probably a private merchant's validation stamp. It has been found on other Mexican gold coins of the period, as noted in the description of the similarly stamped 4 Escudos 1736 Mo-MF in the Eliasberg collection (ANR 4/2005, lot 3094).From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins
