Philip V gold 8 Escudos 1733 Mo-F AU55 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM148, Onza-422. A second example of this rare date (a quite remarkable occurrence in itself!), with slight high-point friction, but showing an unusually firm and centered strike on a most attractive flan, while retaining considerable luster over little-marked surfaces. This particular example was lauded as "one of the King's of Latin American Numismatics" when sold in 1979, realizing a world-record price of over $25,000 at the time. A handful of other examples from the 1733 Plate Fleet have surfaced since, yet this particular coin will likely remain the most famous amongst them.Ex. 1733 Plate Fleet (Almanzar's 12/1979, lot 2539 for $26,750)From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins

Estimate: 8000-10000 USD
