Ferdinand VI gold 4 Escudos 1751 Mo-MF AU55 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM137, Cal-108. A most engaging example of the rare last date in the series, a tad less sharply struck than the previous lot, yet similarly lustrous and also unusually handsome for this elusive type. Struck from different dies than the Eliasberg example (ANR 4/2005, lot 3126) and clearly superior to that specimen. As noted in the description of the previous lot, currently tied with two other coins as the finest of the type certified by NGC. For the specialist of this fascinating series, the cataloguer notes that a superb example of the unlisted 1751/0 overdate variety hammered at CHF12,500 in 2007 (UBS 3/2007, lot 463).From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins
