Ferdinand VI gold 4 Escudos 1759-Mo-MM AU Details (Damaged) NGC, Mexico City mint, KM139, Cal-115. A well struck coin with tooling evidence on a small area of the cheek on the King's bust, yet with little actual wear, retaining considerable mint luster and attractive despite the noted flaw. A rare three-year type (see following lot for the extremely rare unpublished 1758 date!) in any grade featuring the last variation of Ferdinand VI's portrait for the 4 Escudos series, represented by arguably lesser examples in the Gerber and Eliasberg collections. The specimen in the latter group (ANR 4/2005, lot 3138) was graded XF Details and hammered at $5,000.From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins
