Charles III gold 4 Escudos 1784 Mo-FM AU55 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM142.2, Cal-342. Very lustrous and well-detailed, with slight friction on the higher points defining the grade. The strike is a tad soft on the reverse at 5 o'clock as sometimes seen on examples of this date - see Aureo 5/2013, lot 574 for another high grade example also weakly struck in the same area - yet a wonderful type coin for the scarce Charles III regular bust 4 Escudos series. Among the finest seen by the cataloguer - and tied with a single other example (the 1781 Mo-FF in this collection!) as the second finest certified by NGC - for the aforementioned type. Very rare and most desirable in this delightful preservation. As a side note, the cataloguer has yet to confirm the 4 Escudos 1784 Mo-FF issue (Cal-341). If it exists, it is doubtlessly excessively rare. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins
