Charles IV gold 2 Escudos 1790 Mo-FM XF40 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM131, Cal-355. Attractive for the designation and free of distracting contact marks, with limited high-point wear and partial underlying luster mostly visible on the recessed areas. An amazing companion piece to the previous lot, and likely one of the two finest known of the type, as noted in said lot's description. One of only five known of the date by the cataloguer, and a superb representative of one of the key issues to assemble a Mexican Colonial type set which, as is also noted on the description of the previous lot, is one of the very few types missing in the comprehensive Banco de Mexico collection. The cataloguer notes a lower example of this date and type sold for $32,200 in 2008 (Ponterio 1/2008, lot 1602 in F-VF condition). From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins
Estimate: 12000-15000 USD
