Charles IV gold 4 Escudos 1802 Mo-FT MS61 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM144, Cal-223. A well struck and fully lustrous coin with a few handling marks in the obverse fields preventing a higher grade, while the reverse is truly magnificent and choice. While not prohibitively elusive in circulated grades, the Charles IV 4 Escudos of Mexico are conditionally rare when approaching Uncirculated preservation (as are, in fact all the Colonial 4 Escudos of that mint). True Uncirculated pieces are basically uncollectible. To date, this coin remains the single example of a Charles IV Mexico 4 Escudos certified as Mint State by either major third party grading company and, in fact, only the third coin certified as such for the entire Mexico colonial 4 Escudos series (the other two pieces being Philip V 4 Escudos!). As such, its importance for the numismatic connoisseur is hard to overstate: extremely rare in this quality, and a true jewel of the Rudman collection. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins

Estimate: 5000-7000 USD
