Charles IV gold 8 Escudos 1790 Mo-FM MS61 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM158, Onza-1017. Transitional type with Charles III bust and the CAROLUS IIII legend on the obverse. Choice for the designation with very lustrous and contrasting fields, the expected surface abrasions and only minimal adjustment marks on the shield. A scarce one-year transitional type, conditionally very rare and desirable in this technical grade. Currently tied with a single other coin (the ex-Eliasberg example, ANR 4/2005, lot 3177 for $9,200) as the only Mint State examples of the issue certified by NGC, and a worthy candidate to represent this type in a refined cabinet. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins
