La Rioja. Republic gold 8 Escudos 1832/1 RA-P AU Details (Repaired) NGC, KM21, Fr-2, Onza-1556. From a desirable issue, this massive "Sun-Face" type presents antiqued golden color with subtle tone that delicately clings to the legends. While the devices are nicely detailed throughout, the surfaces, which have been made more uniform, contain fewer than typical abrasions. In regards to the overdate--a topic of considerable debate--Jansen theorizes that there was only one reverse die for this issue and it features a small protrusion above and around the "2"; meaning, the die from 1831 was re-worked for the 1832 date. So, then it only follows that all coins that bear the date of 1832 are overdates. A classic gold issue struck during an era of fledgling republics, highly demanded at all levels and in all conditions.
